[ANPPOM-Lista] Funded PhD Studentship in Historical Musicology, University College Dublin

The School of Music at University College Dublin is pleased to offer a
fully-funded four-year PhD studentship in historical musicology, to be
supervised by Dr Tomás McAuley. The position is funded by UCD as part of Dr
McAuley’s recent appointment as Ad Astra Fellow. The start date will be 1
September 2020.

Research areas

Applications are welcome for topics in any of Dr McAuley’s areas of
interest and expertise, notably European music and culture of the long
eighteenth century, with a particular (but not exclusive) focus on music’s
relationships to philosophy and/or medicine in this period. Projects with
the potential for clear historiographical and methodological significance
are especially welcome.

Doctoral research in music at UCD

The UCD School of Music is one of the leading centres for graduate musical
study in Ireland. Its graduate programmes give students the opportunity to
work with scholars of international standing in the School’s core
disciplines of historical musicology and ethnomusicology. In addition to
expert supervision from Dr McAuley, the successful candidate will have the
opportunity to work with other faculty members with related interests.

The PhD programme at UCD lasts four years, and includes research training,
taught modules, and a research and development plan, alongside the

What is included?

The studentship will last four years and will include:

A full fee waiver
A tax-free stipend of €18,000 per annum
A research allowance of €4000 per annum

Qualifications

First-class or high 2:1 (or equivalent) undergraduate and Masters-level
degrees in music or cognate disciplines. Applications from candidates
currently working towards a Masters-level degree are welcome. There are no
