The debut issue of Resonance: the Journal of Sound and Culture will be an
assembled volume that draws upon the strengths of various fields as
expressed in the aims and scope of the journal. The founding editors chose
Resonance as the title of the journal because it is both active and
relational: resonance is dynamic in the physical sense and it is also rich
with auditory associations.

The editors are interested in traditional and new forms of radio, music,
performance, installation, sound technologies, immersive realities and
studies-based disciplines such as musicology, philosophy and cultural
studies. However, this first issue should underscore the journal’s scope
by extending to other disciplines as well, such as ethnography, cultural
geography, ecologies, media archeology, digital humanities, audiology,
communications, cultural studies and architecture.

Resonance is committed to investigating the research, theory, and praxis of
sound from diverse cultural perspectives in the arts and sciences, and the
editors encourage consideration of ethnicity, race, and gender within
theoretical and/or artistic frameworks as they relate to sound. The
journal’s purview explores cultural boundaries and expands upon the concept
of sound as a living, cultural force whose territories and impacts are
still emerging.

Those interested in being published in the debut issue should submit their
manuscripts for peer review by July 1, 2019. Please review the submission
guidelines here.

Please follow Resonance to learn about future calls for special topics and
opportunities to contribute to feature sections as well as book and sound
art reviews.
