Universidade Federal de Pelotas, antigo Conservatório da cidade de Pelotas, se
confunde com a própria história da música na cidade. Além do ensino da música,
esta instituição, a exemplo de outras do mesmo gênero no país, tomou para si a
tarefa da promoção e organização de concertos que se realizavam na cidade, tanto
dos alunos da escola como de artistas convidados. <o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 35.4pt"><SPAN
style="FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma">Instituição de extrema relevância para a cultura da
cidade de Pelotas, o Conservatório de Música da UFPel tem também papel
significativo na história do Rio Grande do Sul, papel este que foi reconhecido
através da concessão, em 2004, do título de “Patrimônio Cultural do Estado”,
através do Projeto de Lei do Deputado Estadual Bernardo de Souza aprovado pela
Assembléia Legislativa do Rio Grande do Sul.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 35.4pt"><SPAN
style="FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma">Esta história está conservada pelos documentos que
existem no Centro de Documentação Musical do Conservatório de Música, e dentre
eles, muito especialmente pelas imagens dos concertos aqui realizados, e dos
alunos e professores que passaram por esta casa de ensino.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

style="FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma">O projeto História Iconográfica do Conservatório de
Música da UFPel pretende resgatar esta história que aí se conserva através da
preparação de um livro, onde as imagens sejam apresentadas em destaque,
contextualizadas pelas informações históricas necessárias para seu entendimento,
concretizando um retorno para a sociedade da trajetória de sua escola de
música.</SPAN></P>

Lucas, “é inegável, portanto, a importância de se dar a conhecer o acervo
histórico-documental do Conservatório de Música da UFPel em seus múltiplos
aspectos e incentivar alternativas de sua utilização não para a constituição de
um discurso laudatório e de auto-glorificação, mas sim para dinamizar a
construção de várias histórias que nos levem a interpretar os significados dos
jogos de inclusões e exclusões sociomusicais que se processaram no âmbito dessa
e de outras instituições no Brasil cujos efeitos ainda se fazem sentir na
contemporaneidade”. </SPAN></SPAN></P>
