1. The competition is open to composers of any nationality, without any
age
limit.<br>

2. Only one category is foreseen:<br>
* composition of a concert piece for solo harp (maximum 10').<br>
<br>
3. The participants should send n° 5 copies of their compositions.
Scores must
be anonymous and must not contain any mark of identifi cation.<br>
<br>
Each score must be accompanied by a motto and by a sealed envelope
bearing the
same motto. The sealed envelope must contain:<br>
<br>
* the application form, duly completed;<br>
* photocopy of the personal identity card;<br>
* a statement confi rming that the work has never been published before;<br>
* a declaration in favour of Berben Edition, in case the winner is
bound to any
other editor;<br>
* a short curriculum vitae;<br>
* payment's copy of registration fee of Euro 60,00; payment must be
made only
by bank transfer from 16 of March 2007 since 06 of April 2007; sorting

5. Each composer shall be accompanied by a performer, if needed, for

round.Each performer will be reimbursed Euro 100,00 for expenses from

6. The Jury will be composed by Conservatory professors.<br>
President of the jury: M° Umberto Rotondi, Composer.<br>
Applicants shall not be related to or have educational relationships
with
members of the jury. Each jury member before starting his/her activity
will be
asked to declare his/her personal position towards the participants and
to
exclude any confl icting situation with the applicants.<br>
<br>
7. The Jury will have two subsequent meetings:<br>
<br>
* PRELIMINARY step: the Jury will select the fi nalists' works;<br>
* FINAL step (live recital): the Jury will identify the winning
compositions.<br>
<br>
8. The live recital is foreseen before the end of May 2007. Within the
fi rst
week of May 2007 the exact date of the recital will be communicated to
the fi
nalists by e-mail.<br>
<br>
9. The Jury's judgement is defi nitive and cannot be appealed. The Jury
reserves
the right not to award any prize, in case all presented works are
considered
unsuitable, and to give special mention to particularly meritorious
works, even
if not awarded.<br>
<br>
10. Materials, scores and registration fees will not be returned. The
Competition might be suspended due to any unforeseen circumstances;
only in
this case scores and registration fees will be returned.<br>
<br>
11. The application to participate in the competition confi rms that the
contestants accept all rules and regulations currently established.<br>
<br>
12. Should the interpretation of the regulations be contested, the
Italian text
is defi nitive. The Court of Milan is competent for all controversies.<br>

2007 Beethoven Club - Student Composition Contest<br>
Deadline: 16 March 2007<br>
<br>
The 2007 Beethoven Club Composition Contest is offered in conjunction
with the
Belvedere Chamber Music Festival to be held June 20-23, 2007 at the
Beethoven
Club of Memphis. The contest is open to undergraduate composition
students of
all nationalities. Entry forms, available online, must contain the
signature of
the entrant's theory or composition professor. Participants may submit
up to
two entries. Anonymous submission. Submissions may be made in two
categories:<br>
<br>
Chamber Music: scores for violin, flute, clarinet, cello, bassoon,
horn, and
piano. Entries may be solos or works for any combination of these
instruments.
Works should not exceed 10 minutes in length.<br>
<br>
Organ: Students may submit scores for pipe organ.<br>
<br>
Deadline for entry is March 16, 2007. A panel assembled by the
Belvedere
Chamber Music Festival board will judge scores. Winning compositions
will be
performed by members of Luna Nova New Music Ensemble and by Wesley
Emerson,
organist / choirmaster of Grace St. Luke's Episcopal Church at the
festival.
Winners will also receive a live recording and tuition remission for
attendance
at the festival. Winners are expected to attend the festival.<br>

COMPOSER GIAN CARLO MENOTTI DIES<br>
<br>
Two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning opera composer Gian Carlo Menotti has
died in a
Monaco hospital aged 95.<br>
<br>
Born in Italy in 1911, he founded arts festivals in Spoleto in Italy -
where he
was known affectionately as "the mad maestro" - and in the US.<br>
<br>
Menotti also wrote Amahl and the Night Visitors in 1951, thought to
have been
the first opera written for television.<br>
<br>
His son Francis said that the composer died on Thursday, "pretty
peacefully and without any pain".<br>
<br>
He was one of the most charismatic figures in the arts world Italian
Culture

<br>
Menotti began composing songs at the age of seven, and wrote his first
opera at
11.<br>
<br>
Encouraged by his mother, he received formal musical training at the
Verdi
Conservatory in Milan, before moving to the US in 1928, where he
trained at the
Curtis Institute in Philadelphia.<br>
<br>
His first professional opera, Amelia Goes to the Ball, was first
produced in
1937.<br>
<br>
He won Pulitzer Prizes for The Consul, which premiered in 1950, and
1954's The
Saint of Bleecker Street.<br>
<br>

In 1958, Menotti founded the Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Umbria.<br>

Rudolf Nureyev, Tennessee Williams, Margot Fonteyn and Al Pacino have

A sister US event began in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1977, and a
third
festival was established in Melbourne, Australia, in 1986.<br>

However, disputes with the board led to Menotti ceasing involvement
with the US
festival in 1993.<br>

Paying tribute to the composer, Italian Culture Minister Francesco
Rutelli told
Reuters news agency: "He was one of the most charismatic figures in the
arts world.<br>

"He was an important multicultural and international crossroads of the

Associated Press: "Gian Carlo Menotti introduced a generation of

International Music Festival "Sharq Taronalari" ("Melodies of
Orient") is one of the biggest festivals in Central Asia. The main aims
and objectives of the festival are to popularize widely the best
achievements
of national music art, to preserve and develop great traditions of
people, to
encourage talents in musical and vocal sphere, as well as to spread in
further
international creative ties, to strengthen cultural-spiritual
cooperation,<span style=""> </span>to praise peace, friendship and
ideas of
mutual sympathy.<br>
<br>
The first International Music Festival "Sharq Taronalari"
("Melodies of Orient") took place in 1997 at which participated
musical groups and performers from 31 different countries. Today it
became one
of the most popular and famous festivals not only in Central Asia but
also
abroad. The bright evidence to this is that year after year not only
the number
and the artistic level of participants are increasing, but also
geographical
range of participating countries is widened.<br>
<br>
Thus, at the 5th International Music Festival "Sharq Taronalari" that
was held on in 2005, participants from 51 countries attended the event.<br>
<br>
It became a good tradition to undertake international scientific
conferences,
devoted to particular aspects of music, at which participate scientists
and
scholars from all over the world.<br>
<br>
Each Festival, that was held on in Samarkand is unique and exclusive.
Peculiarity of the 6th Festival, which will take place within the last
week of
August in 2007, will be that it coincides with celebration of 2750 year
anniversary of Samarkand at international level and all participants of
the
Festival "Sharq Taronalari" will be witnesses of festivities devoted
to this special event.<br>

Regulations Of The Samarkand International Music Festival<br>
<br>
"Sharq Taronalari" ("Melodies Of Orient").<br>
<br>
The International Music Festival "Sharq Taronalari" has been set up
for the purposes to popularize the best achievements of national
musical arts,
preserve and develop great folklore traditions, to bring up young
generation to
love excellence, as well as to further expansion of International
creative
links, glorifying the ideas of peace, friendship, mutual understanding,
further
strengthening of mutual cultural and spiritual cooperation.<br>
<br>
The festival has been held once in two years since 1997 from 24 to 31
August in
Samarkand city ( Uzbekistan ).<br>
<br>
1. Structure of the festival<br>
<br>
The main founders of the International Music Festival "Sharq
Taronalari" are the Ministry of Cultural and Sports Affairs of the
Republic of Uzbekistan, Concert Association "UZBEKNAVO", National
Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan, Union of Composers of
Uzbekistan,
Samarkand region Municipality.<br>
<br>
2. Festival Arrangements<br>
<br>
The following events will take place during the festival:<br>
<span style=""> </span>- Competition on the best performance of
a national song;<br>
<span style=""> </span>- Scientific-theoretical conference;<br>
<span style=""> </span>- Gala-concert.<br>
<br>
3. Festival Conditions<br>
<br>
The creative delegations of up to 6 persons may participate in the
festival
events.<span style=""> </span>All the expenses in Uzbekistan
will be covered by the Festival Organizing Committee. Double room
accommodations in hotels will be provided. (If participant wants to
stay at
single room, it's necessary to pay in addition).<br>
<br>
The number of additional participants covering their own expenses is
limited up
to 9 persons.<br>
<br>
All participants will have to submit their musical program to the
Organizing
Committee by the fixed date.<br>
<br>
Duration of the musical program should not exceed 30 minutes and may
include
the following directions:<br>
<br>
1. Folk musical arts;<br>
<br>
2. Traditional classic music;<br>
<br>
3. Modern music, including variety compositions.<br>
<br>
Every participant must have national flag of his country (size 1m x 2m
).<br>
<br>
4. Conditions of the Best Performance of a National Song competition<br>
<br>
Professional and amateur creative groups, as well as soloists may take<br>
part in the competition.<br>
<br>
The competition consists of 3 rounds.<br>
<br>
At the first round, which is considered to be preliminary, a candidate
ill be
selected through the audition of his/her 3 song recordings (audio/video
cassette or CD).<span style=""> </span>Total duration of the
songs should not exceed 15 minutes.<span style="">
</span>Participants should send audio/video cassettes, CD/DVDs and
photos to
the address of the Organizing Committee by the fixed date.<br>
<br>
The songs at the second and third rounds should be performed only by
performer
him/herself.<span style=""> </span>Music accompaniment is
allowed with phonogram.<br>

Deadline of application for participation in the competition is May 15,
2007.

The International Jury will be formed for estimation of the competition.<br>

The bright national characteristics, pithiness, high level of
performing skill
of singers, the Oriental dressing and stage artistizm are the main
criteria of
the estimation of jury.<br>

6. Awards<br>
<br>
The following awards are established for the winners of the Competition.<br>
Grand Prix - US $ 10,000<br>
The first prize (2) - US $ 7,000 for each<br>
The second prize (2) - US $ 5,000 for each<br>
The third prize (2) - US $ 3,000 for each<br>

Founders, creative unions, funds and other organizations may establish
special
prizes.<br>
<br>
The CDs of the compositions performed by winners of the competition
will be
issued.<br>
<br>
All participants of the Competition will be awarded with special
diplomas.<br>

7. Organizer's rights<br>
The International Festival reserves the following rights worldwide:<br>

1. The exclusive right to broadcast or permit others to broadcast the
festival.<br>
<br>
2. The exclusive right to produce and distribute all types of festival
audio
and video materials (records, CD/DVDs, films and audio/videotapes).<br>
<br>
3. The exclusive right to use for promotional purposes some of the
subsidiary
materials sent by applicants to the Organizing Committee.<br>
<br>
4. All participants coming to the Competition sign an Agreement with
the
Competition about observing licenses, copyrights, and respecting laws
and
traditions of Uzbekistan , fulfillment of the Regulations of the
Contest and
present their own medical insurances.<br>

8. Conference<br>
<br>
The International Scientific and Theoretical Conference as well as
"round
table" of managers and producers for International cooperation in the
music industry will be organized. <br>
<br>
The persons speaking at the conference should present texts of reports
or
detailed theses in advance.<br>
<br>
The working languages of the conference are Uzbek, English, Arabic and
Russian.<br>

finalists of its biennal acousmatic composition competition.<br>

The finalists pieces were selected by a preselection jury - Francis
Dhomont,
Hans Tutschku and Annette Vande Gorne - and were performed and
spatialised
during the XIII International Festival "Espace du Son" (Brussels,
2006).The Festival's jury - Patrick Ascione, Jonty Harrison, Philippe
Mion and
Hans Tutschku - awarded the First Prize ex-aequo to "Maresia" by the
Brasilian Composer Daniel Barreiro and to "Et ignis involvens" by the
Portugese Composer Joao Pedro Oliveira. The Public Prize, with the
support of
the Commune d'Ixelles, was awarded to "A tu memoria" by the
Argentinian Composer Raul Minsburg.<br>

"Early Morning" by the British Composer Adam Stansbie and
"Eclipse" by the Japanese Composer Junya Oikawa were awarded

O Madrigal Ademus, fundado em 2002, por iniciativa de Rubens Ricciardi
em
conjunto com os alunos da primeira turma de Música da USP de Ribeirão
Preto, é
o ensemble vocal do Departamento de Música de Ribeirão Preto da
ECA-USP. Em seu
repertório constam tanto obras da tradição da Idade Média,
Renascimento,
Barroco e Classicismo, como também, como ponto forte, o repertório
colonial
brasileiro, muitas vezes em processo de resgate histórico-musicológico
(Faustino Xavier do Prado, Manuel Dias de Oliveira, José Joaquim
Emerico Lobo
de Mesquita, André da Silva Gomes, Jesuíno do Monte Carmelo, entre
outros),
fruto das pesquisas dos professores Régis Duprat, Rubens Ricciardi e
Diósnio
Machado Neto, assim como obras do século XX, em especial, até aqui, de
Gilberto
Mendes e Rodolfo Coelho de Souza. O Madrigal Ademus já se apresentou em

O regente alemão Tobias Hiller nasceu em 1966, em Waldkirch (Breisgau).
Estudou
em Freiburg, na Escola de Música (com pontos fortes em Canto, Oboé und
Regência), Geografia e História. Graduou-se em Regência Coral e
Orquestral na
Escola Superior de Música de Frankfurt am Main, sob orientação de
Wolfgang
Schäfer. Especializou-se em Canto (sob orientação de Barbara Schlick e
Emma
Kirkby, entre outros), ampliando seus conhecimentos, em especial, no
repertório
e práticas interpretativas de Música Antiga. Freqüentou ainda outros
cursos de
regência e seminários, sob orientação de Peter Eötvös e Michael Gielen,
e ainda
por ocasião do Festival de Música de<span style="">
</span>Stuttgart, aprofundando os conhecimentos em Oratório e
Repertório Contemporâneo.
Como professor de Percepção na Escola Superior de Música de Freiburg
regeu
diversas estréias munidais junto ao Instituto de Música Nova. Como
regente
titular de diversos ensembles da Alemanha e Suíça tem desenvolvido um
amplo
repertório. Desde 1997, vem atuando como professor convidado em
diversos cursos
de Regência e Canto Coral. Em 1999, assumiu o cargo de Diretor Musical
da
famosa Universidade de Tübingen. Desde então, vem dirigindo seus
conjuntos
musicais universitários em importantes eventos, como a Expo 2000 de
Hannover,
em inúmeros países europeus (como França, Áutria, Polônia, entre
outros) e de
outros continentes, como Marrocos, China, Brasil e Estados Unidos. No
40º
Concurso Coral, no início de julho de 2003, em Spittal an der Drau, na
Áustria,
conquistou com o coro de câmara "Camerata Vocalis" o terceiro prêmio
na categoria "Canção Artística" (ao mesmo tempo em que foi premiado
como melhor coro europeu na competição). Como regente convidado, tanto
de
corais como orquestras, vem atuando também na França, República Tcheca,
Suíça e
Estados Unidos. Em setembro de 2004, Tobias Hiller lançou um CD por
ocasião dos
200 Anos do Nascimento de Eduard Mörike, com poesias (Locutor:
Christian
Brückner) e composições próprias para coral (a partir de textos daquele
poeta).
No outono de 2005, atuou como professor visitante na Disciplina
Regência Coral
junto ao Curso de Música da ECA-USP de Ribeirão Preto.<br>
