<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; ">The RNCM is offering two PhD Research Studentships for successful applicants to the PhD degree programme who commence study in the academic year 2010-11.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; ">Both Studentships cover tuition fees (£3,390 full-time; £1,690 part-time), and one Studentship also includes a maintenance grant (£13,290 full-time; £7,970 part-time).</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; ">The Studentships will be awarded on a competitive basis and are initially given for one year, but will normally be tenable for up to three years (full-time study) or six years (part-time study), subject to satisfactory academic progress. Students initially registered for an MPhil degree are also eligible.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; ">Suitably qualified holders of Research Studentships may also be offered paid Graduate Teaching Assistant opportunities in the College, depending on the availability of appropriate teaching work. Note that in the case of the holder of the maintenance grant, any such teaching would be paid in lieu of the equivalent amount of maintenance grant.</p>

Its MPhil/PhD programme provides an opportunity to conduct high-level research within the dynamic, creative, and supportive environment of an internationally recognised conservatoire.</p>

</ul><p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; ">The PhD in Musicology or Music Psychology focuses on an 80,000-word thesis. The pathways in Performance and Composition lead towards a series of performances of c.180 minutes duration or a portfolio of compositions of c.120 minutes duration, supported by a critical commentary of 20,000 words. Separate MPhil programmes are also available. Students receive an individually negotiated package of supporting studies delivered by the RNCM and Manchester Metropolitan University, and one-to-one supervision through a supervisory team.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; ">All candidates who are offered a place for either PhD or MPhil study and agree to take up the offer to commence study in the year 2010-11 will automatically be entitled to apply for a Research Studentship award. Candidates may be required to submit written or recorded materials in support of their application for an award, in addition to those provided for their initial application for study. </p>
