electronic journal Portuguese Cultural Studies published at the Center
of Portuguese Studies of the Utrecht University (The Netherlands) will
publish a thematic issue on Brazilian Postcolonialities, focused on the
interactions between critiques of colonialism and coloniality and
Brazilian studies. The issue aims at analyses of Brazilian culture and
society that address power unbalances and ideologies related to colonial
expansion at current times of neo-liberal globalisation. It also seeks
theoretical perspectives well suited for an evaluation of Brazilian
contemporaneity. What are productive (dis)encounters between
postcolonial theory and other critical traditions from the South leading
to a (re)thinking and (re)interpreting of contemporary Brazil? In what
ways can these traditions support the affirmation of Subaltern
epistemologies, practices and livelihoods? Which comparative approaches
contribute to this task? Essays that explore these issues and develop
views grounded on postcolonial criticism across disciplines are welcome.
