<p>The University of Southampton seeks to appoint a Lecturer, Senior
Lecturer or Reader in Composition, to join a thriving composition
programme led by Professor Michael Finnissy. The appointee will have a
PhD in music or equivalent professional experience, and a distinguished
record of commissions, publications, performances and/or recordings. No
style of composition is excluded, provided that your work can be
considered as original research according to the practice-based research
criteria developed by the Arts and Humanities Research Council of Great
Britain and HEFCE. An interest in technology and new media is
desirable. You will contribute to teaching and curriculum development
of composition at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and help to
organise new music workshops and performance events in support of
composition teaching. You will be able to communicate your views and
skills enthusiastically to a broad undergraduate and postgraduate
student body, and to engage constructively with colleagues active in a
wide range of musical styles and idioms.</p>
<p>The appointment will be made in the salary range above, depending on
qualifications and experience, to begin on 1 September 2012. The
position advertised is full-time, but applications from composers who
would prefer to work for the university part time may also be
considered.</p>
