<p id="aui_3_2_0_195"> Kaija Saariaho has been recognized by many
award-giving institutions, festivals and concert halls as one of the
prominent contemporary art music composers in the Western world. In
addition to impressing concert audiences and journalists, her unique
music idiom has fascinated researchers all over the world. We have the
honour to invite researchers from musicology and related fields to a
scholarly symposium that studies Kaija Saariaho's music and career
development to celebrate the 60th birthday of the composer.</p> <p>
Voices, Spaces, Senses symposium will offer an interdisciplinary forum
for researchers who share the passion for diverse multisensory, spatial,
timbral, aesthetic, cultural, socio-material, embodied, narrative and
counternarrative aspects on Saariaho's music. With this extensive range
of themes the symposium aims to become a substratum for fruitful
discussions and networks, as well as for novel scholarly collaborations.
</p> <p> Kaija Saariaho has promised to be present at the
symposium, which will include a dialogic session with her. Participants
are asked to send questions to her in advance. After the research
symposium, a one-day festival will be organized in honour of Kaija
Saariaho on October 14, 2012 at the Helsinki Music Centre</p> <h3> Proposals</h3> <p> <br>
We welcome proposals for 20-minute paper presentations on
above-mentioned themes and perspectives. The proposals should be a
maximum of 300 words long and include</p> <p> 1) the name of the participant,<br> 2) the affiliation of the participant, and<br> 3) the short CV or biography, as well as<br> 4) the title of the presentation and<br>
5) information about the technical equipment required. Please send your
