.you're looking at the contents of 4 storage units that need to be emptied<br>
and need to be emptied SOON. About 30,000 records here, virtually all 78s (a<br>
few LPs), part of an accumulation constantly added to over the last 12<br>
years. Classical album sets and singles, 40s and 50s popular vocals, jazz<br>
and dance bands, ethnic, light classical, organ, bands, personality, British<br>
nostalgia. At least three radio station libraries are in here (CBC Halifax,<br>
a station in Hamilton and a station in Syracuse), thousands of near mint<br>
classical discs from a Carnegie Collection that came from Hobart-Smith<br>
College, more from Richard Burns's collection, hundreds of pre-1930 discs,<br>
the libraries of broadcasters and discographers, much of the Bill Givens<br>
collection, hundreds or more from the Walter de Mohrenschildt collection,<br>
surplus from the National Library in Ottawa. No transcriptions, no 45s<br>
(maybe a dozen). Long runs of Dinah Shore, Bing Crosby, Tony Martin, Perry<br>
Como, Harry James, Fats Waller, a complete "Songs of Our Times" set (1 disc<br>
broken), hundreds of John McCormack, to name just a few. Over a thousand<br>
store stock 78s (pop and jazz, 40s through 1957 as well as a couple of dozen<br>
twelve-inch Red Seals) from a Buffalo record store that closed in 1957.<br>
Opera sets, concertos, symphonies in excellent condition, almost two<br>
thousand Overtures from one specialist collector, as well as the inevitable<br>
"donations". Much of this was taken or purchased for use in broadcasting or<br>
for compact disc reissue, so condition was considered at the time.<br>
<br>
These are in Toronto, most of them are on shelving units (the units are also<br>
available), several thousand are in boxes from their last move. Buyer is<br>
responsible for arranging packing and transportation as soon as possible.<br>
Cherry picking? Not possible, but note the low starting price of around 25<br>
cents a disc.this isn't one of those "we have a gold mine and we'll only<br>
accept a million dollars" sales. As mentioned, these records are in 4<br>
storage units in a secure facility. 3 of the units are indoor climate<br>
controlled and the 4th is outdoor access with the records well back from the<br>
entrance. Ground level, easy access during normal business hours. Bring your<br>
truck and check your tires. Lots of Jan Peerce and Jose Iturbi records you<br>
can use as packers (unfortunately, they'll probably survive).<br>
<br>
Packing and shipping.about 10 years ago, the CBC Halifax surplus collection<br>
of around 10,000 discs was packed by students and loaded onto 3 skids and<br>
shrink-wrapped and driven to Toronto for around $600. Don't know if this<br>
helps.<br>
