<td align="justify" valign="top" width="100%"> <p align="justify">The
Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies Program (LACIS) at the
University of Wisconsin-Madison, are a Title VI National Resource
Center, in operation since 1973 in consortium with the University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies
(CLACS).<br>
<br>LACIS coordinates and supports teaching, research and outreach on
campus and in the community. Its mission as a resource center and as an
academic program, is threefold:
</p><ol><li> To train Latin Americanist specialists for academic, government, and private sectors; </li><li> To support Latin Americanist students and faculty in their
intellectual development so that they can become and remain superior
teachers and scholars; </li><li> To serve as a local, regional, and national resource center that
provides outreach, support services, and information to other university
units, K-16, government, civic, community and business
constituencies. </li></ol>
LACIS provides a variety of grant opportunities for affiliated faculty.
Tinker Visiting Professorship Program is an excellent means to relieve
curriculum gaps, complement departmental strengths, and to establish
more informal collaborations among faculty and students.

<td align="justify" valign="top" width="100%"> <p align="justify">Tinker
Professors are highly distinguished scholars who are citizens of Latin
America, the Spanish speaking Caribbean, Spain, Portugal, or Canada
(distinguished public officials, artists, and musicians are also
eligible).

<b>Requisitos</b>

<p align="justify">Tinker Professors at the
University of Wisconsin-Madison are required to teach or co-teach one
course during the semester of residence and to provide, in addition, one
public lecture. </p>

<td valign="top"><b>Forma de solicitação</b></td>
<td align="default" valign="top" width="100%">
<p align="justify">The nomination is first considered by
the campus Tinker-Nave Committee, which meets in February, and then
presented to the President of the Tinker Foundation for approval. <br>
<br>For a department, school, or academic unit to nominate a Tinker Professor candidate submit:
</p><ol><li> A nomination letter explaining the qualifications of the candidate,
the proposed course to be taught or co-taught, and the benefit of the
visit to the university and to LACIS faculty and students;</li><li> A detailed <i>Curriculum vitae</i> for the candidate;</li><li> A statement from the proposed professor describing their research, interest and teaching style;</li>
<li> And letters of support from both inside and outside of the host department.</li></ol>
To facilitate the planning of the Tinker Professorship, it is highly
recommended that sponsoring faculty contact LACIS director, <a href="http://history.wisc.edu/people/faculty/scarano.htm" target="_blank">Francisco Scarano</a>, or Associate Director, <a href="http://www.lacis.wisc.edu/index.php?q=node/6#vargas" target="_blank">Alberto Vargas</a>, advising on their intentions to nomination.
