This article raises a number of questions and it's difficult to approach it objectively without knowing the answers.<br>
<br>
Does the university in question pride itself on having a prestigious music department and music library? The more prestigious, the more the writer might be frustrated that its claim to excellence was being compromised by his experience.<br>
<br>
Is this a university which once had specialist music library staff but which has had to cut specialist posts through lack of funding? If so, then the writer might have been expecting a former level of expertise which was no longer forthcoming.<br>
<br>
Do our IAML colleagues in Australia have in place any training programmes which could address this problem, along the lines of the UK & Ireland branch's "Music for the Terrified" course? If so, is this particular university aware of them?<br>
