Do acalanto da primeira infância à escuta ambulante com fones de ouvido, há uma longa história de maneiras como se vive a música: cantando, escutando, tocando um instrumento, compondo... Com o advento da mediatização<i> </i>tecnológica, outras maneiras de viver a música foram surgindo<i>.</i> <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt'><i><span style='font-family:"Garamond","serif"'>Viver a música</span></i><span style='font-family:"Garamond","serif"'> implica, é tocar um instrumento musical, de qualquer tipo... É escutar <i>performances</i>, com ou sem a presença direta do corpo, realizando a transmissão emoções. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt'><i><span style='font-family:"Garamond","serif"'>Vive-se a música </span></i><span style='font-family:"Garamond","serif"'>de acordo com os estágios da vida: o bebê percebe de maneira diferente da criança, do adolescente, do adulto e do idoso. E também <i>vivem a música,</i> de maneira singular, as pessoas que, por razões diversas, fogem ao padrão: <span style='color:black'>cegos, surdos, deficientes intelectuais, físicos e também pessoas que sofrem alterações de ordem psíquica. </span><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt'><i><span style='font-family:"Garamond","serif"'>Viver a música</span></i><span style='font-family:"Garamond","serif"'> também é estudar o papel da música na sociedade, sua relação com outras artes, sua relação com as instituições, seu papel na construção de conhecimento, nas formas de agir no mundo...<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify;text-indent:36.0pt'><span style='font-family:"Garamond","serif"'>Este 12º Encontro dedica especialmente sua edição à memória do compositor Gilberto Mendes, incentivador desta reunião científica desde sua primeira edição, em 2005.
