With much sorrow, I must inform the List of the death of Gerard Béhague
after a year-long illness.

Founder and editor of the _Latin American Music Review_, Gerard was
arguably the most distinguished scholar of Brazilian and Latin American
music in the United States, and certainly shaped the ethnomusicology
program at the University of Texas at Austin into its current first-rank
status. He was an exceptional mentor to his advisees, and an invaluable
resource to many other scholars. A former president of the SEM, he was
also a member of the AMS for many years.

The musicology and ethnomusicology program at the University of Texas
mourns the loss of a leading light, whose absence will be strongly felt,
and whose energy, intellect, and leadership will be irreplaceable.

No public funeral is scheduled, but a memorial celebration at the
University of Texas is planned later this year.

Sincerely,

Andrew DA
