ANNOUNCES THE
VII INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR NEW CHAMBER OPERAS
“ORPHEUS” 2005-2006 FONDAZIONE CASSA DI RISPARMIO DI SPOLETO
· The Jury.
The Jury will be preside over by Louis Andriessen.
The others members will be: Luca Francesconi (Italia), David Lang (Stati
Uniti), Michele dall’Ongaro (Rai Radio 3), Luigi Taglioni (Rai Trade),
Mauro Trombetta (direttore artistico Fondazione Teatro dell’Opera di
Roma), Michelangelo Zurletti (direttore artistico Teatro Lirico
Sperimentale di Spoleto).
·This year the Competition presents two phases.
A preliminary phase provides for selection of the opera plans (deadline
is 2005, December 31st) consisting in synopsis, libretto and extract of
the score lasting at least 10 minutes. By 2006, January 31st the Jury
will choose at maximum three opera plans.
Later the finalists should explain how they want to complete their
operas to the President of the Jury, the Artistic Director of the Teatro
Lirico Sperimentale, a director and a conductor.
In the second phase, the three selected composers should complete the
opera and send it no later than November 10th 2006.
·The Prizes.
Only after the completion of the opera, each selected composer will be
awarded the
Prize Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Spoleto of Euro 3.000,00.
- The winning composer – whom the Jury will choose within 2006,
December 31st – will be awarded the Prize Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio
di Spoleto of Euro 6.000,00 and the Special Prize “Tullio Profili” of
Euro 5.000,00.
- The world premiere of the winning opera will take place at the
Teatro Caio Melisso during the 2007 Opera Season of the Teatro Lirico
Sperimentale di Spoleto “A. Belli”.
- The winning opera could be in case staged in Rome in 2008 within
the program of the Teatro of the Opera of Rome.
The Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto has the right to present also
one of the two not winning operas as a world première.
The age of the composers has been elevated from 35 to 40 years (on 2005,
December 31st). An important innovation concerning a series of
conferences, meetings and workshops for the students of composition of
the Italian Conservatoires and of the School of Spoleto and Umbria.
