Royal Musical Association 42nd Annual Conference: University of
Nottingham, 11-14 July 2006

The 42nd Annual Conference of the Royal Musical Association will be
hosted by the Music Department at the University of Nottingham. The 
conference theme will be Music and Visual Cultures. Please note that the 
conference will take place slightly earlier in the year than usual, so 
as to fall during the summer conference season.

Music has always enjoyed a close relationship with visual modes of
representation. The conference theme is intended to embrace all areas of
the discipline, including history, aesthetics, analysis, composition,
performance, and ethnomusicology, and the conveners are keen to
encourage a broad range of interdisciplinary approaches. A keynote 
speaker will be announced in due course.

Proposals are particularly encouraged within the following areas,
although other topics are also welcome:

* Music Theatre (including Opera, Dance and other dramatic genres)
* Music, Film and Multimedia
* Music, Landscape and Environment
* Music and Urban Geography
* Music and Art History
* Manuscript/ Source Studies
* Music and Science

Submissions are invited for individual papers (20 minutes), themed
sessions (three speakers, 90 minutes), roundtables (90 minutes/ two
hours). Abstracts (200 words for individual papers, 600 words for
sessions and roundtables submitted by the proposed 'leader') should be 
sent by email no later than *1 March 2006* to the conference convenors, 
Daniel Grimley and Sarah Hibberd. The committee will make a final 
decision on abstracts by 1 April 2006, and contributors will be notified 
as soon as possible thereafter. For more information, please contact the
