Call For Papers
2007 Echo Conference: Music and the Self
June 1-2, 2007
University of California, Los Angeles

Over the past two decades, music scholarship has become increasingly
interested in issues of gender, class, race, sexuality and other
aspects of identity. These new scholastic directions have created
exciting new avenues for scholars to examine the ways in which music
plays a role in both the formation and expression of personal
subjectivity. With this framework in mind, Echo: A Music-Centered
Journal is pleased to announce its second annual conference, "Music
and the Self", to be held at UCLA on June 1-2, 2007. Scholars from
all areas of music research are invited to submit proposals for
papers on this theme; proposals for pre-arranged panels are also
welcome. Papers will each be twenty minutes long (~2400 words)
followed by ten minutes for discussion.

Individual presenters should submit an abstract of 300 words or less,
and should also include: 1) the paper title; 2) the author's name and
a brief biography (50-100 words); 3) institutional affiliation and
contact information; 4) audio-visual requirements. Panel chairs
should include all of the above for each member of the panel, as well
as a separate, more general description of the panel's overall theme
(200-250 words). Submissions may be sent electronically to
echoconf at ucla.edu (please put "Echo Conference Submission" in the
subject line). Alternately, print submissions may be sent to:

Echo: A Music-Centered Journal
Attn: Kelsey Cowger
Department of Musicology

Submissions are due March 1st, 2007.
