July 10 - 16, 2006
Missoula, Montana

International Choral Festival Symposium -- The Conductor and the Choral
Score: Aspects of Score Preparation for the Choral Conductor for Effective
Interpretation and Communication.

This symposium will allow participants to immerse themselves in the study of
choral conducting and will create the means for choral conductors to
communicate, share ideas, and exchange literature.

Over a 6-day period, participants will:

 * Engage in classroom discussion and in-depth study of choral literature.
This portion of the course will consider how to shape and refine a choral
work
based on structural and historical analysis. Participants will study five
works drawn from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and
Twentieth-century choral repertoires. Discussion topics will include
identifying and solving specific conducting issues and handling interpretive
challenges within each work.

 * Attend International Choral Festival concerts. Over 20 choirs from 5
continents will present 25 public concerts throughout Festival week. The
class
schedule will allow participants to witness these choirs in action.

 * Interact with fellow choral conductors and singers from around the globe.
Participants will be admitted to all official ICF social functions in order
that they may have opportunities to meet and visit with Festival choir
members
and conductors.

 * Perform as members of the International Massed Festival Chorus. At the
conclusion of the Festival Finale Concert, all choirs will join together to
perform under the direction of Artistic Director Donald Carey and Special
Guest Conductor Diane Loomer. Class participants will join this chorus for
their rehearsal and performance.

For more information, please see the symposium web page on the "2006 Summer
Institutes" link at www.music.org.
