as the deadline for the submission of applications (thus, they must have
been born after 15 January 1980).

APPLICATIONS

Applications must be sent by registered post, postmarked on 15 January 2007
at the latest, to the Secretariat of the Competition, 20 rue aux Laines,
B-1000 Brussels (Belgium). This deadline cannot be extended under any
circumstances.

Applications sent by fax or by e-mail will not be accepted.

Applications must include:

1. the application form, correctly completed. This form must be completed
and submitted online on the Queen Elisabeth Competition website
(www.qeimc.be). A printout of this completed application form must be
enclosed with your application;

2. a recording on a good-quality, clearly indexed DVD-VIDEO (video cassettes
are NOT accepted), including (in this sequence) a prelude and fugue by Bach,
a movement from a classical sonata (by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, or
Schubert), an etude by Chopin, and another work of your choice.

The works presented on this DVD-VIDEO do not necessarily have to be included
in your programme for the Competition itself. The recording must mention the
place and date of recording of each piece; it must have been made in the
year preceding the deadline for applications, and must be accompanied by a
document in which the candidate certifies its authenticity;

3. one or more official documents (originals or certified copies)

4. a CV including details of higher education, the names of teachers, and
principal concerts and recitals;

5. a list of principal repertoire (concertos, sonatas, etc.);

6. two passport-size photographs, with the name of the candidate on the

7. a photograph on glossy paper (9 x 12 cm), for use in the Competition
programme.

This photograph may also be submitted in the form of a TIFF file (minimum
300 dpi) via the form on the Competition's website;

8. in order to allow the Competition organisers to judge the merits of a
candidature, the candidate shall enclose with his or her application any
document that might provide information on his or her abilities: for
example, higher qualifications, prizes, and certificates awarded at other
competitions, evidence of recent engagements, etc.

These documents will not be returned.

EXAMINATION OF APPLICATIONS

Applications

The application will be examined by the Competition's organisers. The
recordings of those candidates whose applications are not in order or who
have not met the documentation requirements by 1 February 2007 will not be
viewed and those candidates, accordingly, cannot be admitted to the
Competition.

Programme

The programme will be examined by an Artistic Committee specially designated
for this purpose. This committee will have the right to impose changes to
the programme in order to ensure that it complies with the rules and with
artistic requirements. Once the deadline for applications (15 January 2007)
has passed, no change can be made to the programme, except where required by
the Artistic Committee.

Viewing of recordings

A jury designated by the Competition's organisers will make a selection
based on the DVD-VIDEO recordings submitted by the candidates. For these
screenings, only the recordings of those candidates whose applications are
in order and who have met the documentation requirements by 1 February 2007
will be considered.

Candidates will be informed individually of the results of this selection
process by 1 March 2007 at the latest.

Acceptance

Those candidates whose applications are accepted by the organisers and whose
programmes are also accepted by the Artistic Committee will be sent the
complete rules of the competition (after 1 March 2007). Each such candidate
must send back his or her signed agreement and proof of the transfer of the
registration fee of 55 euro within two weeks. This sum will not be
reimbursed under any circumstances. The rules shall constitute a contract
between the parties.

Once these documents have been received by the Competition's Secretariat,
the candidate will receive definitive confirmation of the acceptance of his
or her application, as well as the score of the compulsory unpublished
Belgian work for the semi-final.

II . THE COMPETITION

DATES, VENUES, AND PROGRAMMES

Some general points:

- Candidates may not include in their programme works that they themselves
have composed.

- In each round, all works must be played from memory, with the exception of
the compulsory unpublished works in the semi-final and the final.

A candidate may ask to be allowed to play some contemporary works with a
score. The Artistic Committee has the power to authorise this.

- Repeats will be left to the discretion of the candidate.

- Candidates are expected to treat each performance as a concert and should
consider the composition of their programme in this light. The jury will
look at each performance as a whole.

The drawing of lots will determine the order in which candidates will play

The AEC has been successful in obtaining a grant for a project in the
framework of the ERASMUS MUNDUS Programme. This EU programme aims at
developing cooperation in higher education with countries outside the EU and
at enhancing attractiveness of European higher education. The project,
entitled 'Mundus Musicalis', is the first project in the field of music
supported by ERASMUS MUNDUS. 'Mundus Musicalis' is coordinated jointly by
the Norwegian University for Science and Technology - department of music in
Trondheim and the AEC, and studies international comparability of systems
and qualifications in the field of music training. The project builds on the
outcomes of the EU/USA project 'Music Study, Mobility and Accountability'
and confirms the intention of the AEC to maintain contact with professional
music training institutions all over the world.

The main project aims are the following:

I. The collection and exchange of information on professional music
training, by

* compiling and providing information and analysis about educational
systems, study programmes and policy issues in professional music training
in the EU and other parts of the world

* collecting and disseminating information on issues related to the
international recognition of music studies and degrees, such as recognition
procedures, and quality assurance/accreditation processes and standards

* facilitating through use of the data collected in this project, policies
and mechanisms concerning transfer of credit and acceptance of students into
music study programs.

* providing the basis for a clear understanding of current and projected
expectations for student learning and achievement among EU and non-European
institutions engaged in higher music education and training

An international working group consisting of representatives from the
following institutions, many of which are AEC associate member institutions,
will do this work: Birmingham Conservatoire (UK), McGill University - school
of music (Montreal, Canada), Conservatoire de Music du Quebec (Montreal,
Canada), University of Adelaide - Elder School of Music (Australia),
Griffith University - Queensland Conservatorium, Brisbane (Australia), Keim
Yung College of Music, Daegu (Korea), National Association of Schools of
Music (US) and the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul - Institute for
the Arts, Porto Alegre (Brazil).

II. Development of an information website portal for non-European students
interested to study music in Europe (www.studymusicineurope.org) with
country descriptions, lists of and links to institutions and practical
information about student mobility.

More information about this project will be posted on this section of the
AEC website soon.

ARTISTIC NEWSLETTER

In next September 16th at 09:00 p.m., Braganca Paulista city (Sao Paulo
State), will be stage of the premiere concert of Sao Paulo Arte Trio in the
Brazilian musical scene.

The event will happen in the Casa de Cultura Demetrio Kipman - Rua

musicians in Sao Paulo: the pianist Paulo Gazzaneo, the violinist Liliana
Chiriac, from Moldova and the cellist Eduardo Bello from Rio de Janeiro,
professors appraised with consistent academic formation and awarded
concertists, national and internationally.

Widely active musicians in their professional attributions, pedagogically
and artistically, they had recognized among themselves the affinity for the
accomplishment of a qualitative work that demands devotion, constant
practice and proper musical identity. These marks had in common made with
that during a dinner meeting in April 25th in the residence of the Gazzaneo
Family was officialized the formation of the Sao Paulo Arte Trio.

constant and uninterrupted rehearsals that, with certainty, will make solid

musical matureness and the creation of a proper sonorous, property that
characterizes them definitively as a top chamber group in the Brazilian and

Assunto: [ANPPOM-L] 5th Biennial International Conference on Music Since
1900

Fifth Biennial International Conference on Music Since 1900

5-8 July 2007, University of York, United Kingdom

Proposals are warmly invited on any topics pertinent to musics of the 20th
and 21st centuries. However, the ICMSN conference would particularly like to
emphasize work on the following topics, intended to be applicable to all
genres of music (pop, commercial, concert, jazz, folk, world...):

* Technological innovations and social context
* Music in non-Western cultures
* Improvisation and improvised music
* Present-day composition shaped by and shaping social and historical forces

Proposals are welcome for any of the following:

* Panel discussions (up to 6 participants, each giving a short position
paper, followed by a general discussion)
* Paper sessions (four papers, each 20 minutes maximum, with 10 minutes for
discussion)
* Papers (20 minutes maximum, with 10 minutes for discussion)
* Recitals or lecture-recitals (40 minutes maximum)
* Workshop-discussions, led by up to three presenters, on aspects of
present-day composition
* Curated installations or compositional listening sessions

Abstracts should be prepared as follows:

* For individual papers - up to 250 words
* For paper sessions - 250-word (maximum) summary and up to 250 words for
each session participant
* For panel discussions - 250-word (maximum) and up to 150 words for each
panel participant

The deadline for submission of session and paper titles and abstracts is 8
January 2007. To make it possible to review proposals anonymously, we ask
that:

* There be only one proposal per applicant.
* Proposals not duplicate presentations being given at conferences or other
events proximate in time or place to ICMSN.
* All proposals be sent as an email together with an MS Word attachment.
* For panel or paper sessions, the email should include the names of all
participants, with the corresponding titles of their papers, and the session
titles. For individual papers, the email should include both the
applicant's name and the paper title.
* The Word attachments should include the titles and abstracts, but nothing
that reveals the names of the participants.

Send proposals to William Brooks, Department of Music, University of York,
YO10 5DD (wfb3 em york.ac.uk).

Conference updates will be posted at http://music.york.ac.uk/icmsn2007

COMPOSERS: please note that we will issue a separate call for compositions
in association with a workshop that will take place during the ICMSN
conference. Stay tuned ...
