Scholars of 19th century music are invited to submit proposals for
papers to be presented at a symposium taking place from Thursday, July
16 through Saturday, July 18, 2009 at the University of Kansas. In
addition to the exchange of ideas and papers, this event is being
sponsored to explore possible interest in the formation of society in
North America specializing in this area of research. The Department of
Music and Dance of the University of Kansas is pleased to host this
event and looks forward to welcoming interested scholars from around
the world.

 Proposals for individual papers, lecture-recitals and panels on all
topics relating to the history, analysis and reception of nineteenth
century music will be considered. Papers on the following topics or

200th anniversary of his birth;
* The life and works of Louis Spohr, in celebration of the 150th
anniversary of his death;
* The life and works of Edward MacDowell, commemorating the
100th anniversary of his death in 1908 and the 150th anniversary of
his birth in 1860;
*       Notable American composers and performers of the nineteenth century;
*       Haydn's influence and reputation in the nineteenth century;

 Proposals for panels should include brief biographies, institutional
affiliation and contact information for each member of the panel, as
well as the abstract for the panel.

 All presentations will be allotted forty minutes, including questions
