I have just gotten the news that Joe Kerman died yesterday. He evidently
died peacefully at home, having been bed-ridden for some time. The family
is planning an event in April, details of which will be announced later.

This is a huge loss for his colleagues at Berkeley and across the country,
for his former students, friends, and family, and for the profession. He
was a few weeks shy of his 90th birthday.
