*CALL FOR PARTICIPATION *

*MAGES 2016 1st International Workshop on Music Analysis and Generation
Systems. *

The 1st International Workshop on the Role of Music Analysis in the
Evaluation of Music Generation Systems (MAGES) will be held June 27, 2016
in Paris, France, at Université Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC), in
conjunction with the Seventh International Conference on Computational
Creativity, ICCC 2016.

*The integration of music analysis for the evaluation of automatic music
generation systems. *
Ideally, automatic music generation systems should make use of some sort of
evaluation of their productions during the generation process. Such
self-evaluation or "critics" are usually modelled with the formalisms and
tools of Artificial Intelligence. On the other hand, musicologists have
conducted music analysis on human produced music for a long time, and
developed specific models. However, there is still little dialogue between
the two communities.

This workshop focuses on the integration of music analysis in music
generation systems, including the modeling of "musical critics" and
self-evaluation during the compositional process. To this aim, the workshop
will be divided into two phases:

1) A small number of short talks, possibly with a poster / discussion
session.
2) Collective listening sessions, during which attendants will be able to
analyse/criticise automatically generated music produced by the
participants.

These sessions will be video recorded for later use.

We therefore welcome two kinds of contributions: position papers pertaining
to computational music analysis methods, and position papers about
automatically generated music, accompanied by musical examples to be used
in the listening sessions.

*Important dates *
Position Paper submission: 1st of May
Reviewers deadline: 27th of May
Notification: 5th of June
Camera-ready version: 15th of June
Workshop Day: 27th of June

The workshop is a full day event.

*Attendance *
It is expected that at least one author of each accepted submission will
attend the workshop (and the ICCC conference) to present their
contribution. We also welcome those who would like to attend the workshop
without presenting. Workshop registration will be available through the
ICCC2016 conference system.

*Submissions *
Please send your submissions at *mages2016workshop em gmail.com
<http://mages2016workshop@gmail.com>*.
Submissions do not have to be anonymised. Each submission will be reviewed
by at least two program committee members.

We welcome POSITION PAPERS of 3 pages maximum, and AUDIO DEMONSTRATIONS (3
minutes maximum). The demonstrations should be provided with an explanatory
text (2 pages maximum).

Papers should be submitted as complete works. We ask that authors arrange
for their web hosting of audio files, and give URL links to all such files
within the text of the submitted paper.

If the papers are of sufficiently high quality, the organisers will propose
a journal special issue consisting of extended versions of the position
papers.
