*Descrição*

The Society for Music Theory (SMT) was founded in 1977 and holds annual
meetings, publishes two journals (Music Theory Spectrum and Music Theory
Online), and encourages scholarly excellence by giving awards for
outstanding publications in music theory. The Society also work to increase
the diversity of it's discipline and to promote fruitful exchanges between
music theorists, musicologists, performers, and scholars in other fields.

The Committee on Diversity offers SMT International Travel Grants
<https://societymusictheory.org/grants/travel#international> for theorists
attending the SMT Annual Meeting.

*Elegibilidade*

Applicants need not be SMT members. Can apply non-U.S. and non-Canadian
citizens who reside outside the United States and Canada. Theorists at all
stages of their careers, including graduate students, are encouraged to
apply. Preference will be given to students and junior faculty (in that
order).
*Valor Financiado*

Typically up to three or four grants are made, with a maximum award of
US$650.00.

To apply for a travel grant, please fill out the Online Travel Grant
Application Form <https://societymusictheory.org/grants/travelgrants/apply>.
The candidate must log in first in order to fill out the form.

Applicants are asked to provide the following information whether
submitting a grant application:

   1. Name, address, telephone, e-mail, and academic affiliation;
   2. Estimated expenses to attend the conference (demonstrating
   responsible approaches to minimize costs);
   3. Anticipated expenses for travel to and lodging during the conference
   (demonstrating responsible approaches to minimizing costs);
   4. Purpose(s) for attending the conference; and
   5. A clear statement of research interests and their relation both to
   conference participation and the field of music theory in general.

Applicants shall include a short *Curriculum vitae* (no longer than two
pages). Students must also submit a letter of support from one of their
major professors. The professor should email the letter of support directly
to Victoria Long, Chair, SMT Committee on Diversity, at vlong em unchicago.edu.
