É com muito prazer que anunciamos a realização do SONOLOGIA 2016 - Out of Phase , uma conferência internacional voltada para o campo dos estudos do som. O evento está sendo organizado pelo NuSom - Núcleo de Pesquisas em Sonologia da USP e acontecerá de 22 a 26 de novembro, em São Paulo. O SONOLOGIA 2016 - Out of Phase acontece num momento em que já há uma produção nacional significativa neste campo, que merece ser divulgada e confrontada com o que se tem realizado no campos dos estudos do som em outras partes do mundo.

OUT-OF-PHASE 
International sound studies conference organised by NuSom – University of São Paulo 
22-26 November, 2016 
São Paulo 


Sonologia 2016 – Out of Phase is an event that comes at a time where the field of sound studies – designated locally as Sonologia since the 2000s – has been consolidated in Brazil and marked by a distinctive emphasis on cross-disciplinary research. Also, we have seen in the past few years the development and appearance of research departments, books, journals and other forms of scholarship and institutional endeavours dedicated to what we now know as sound studies. This encompasses the study of warfare and politics of sound; cultural and technological critiques; sound art and associated praxis; urban phonography and acoustic ecology; sonic epistemologies; new musicology and historically situated reflections. 


In this sense, we feel that is high time to promote work done both nationally and in Latin America. In doing so, we hope to establish fruitful dialogues with researchers coming from other parts of the world, and create a platform for an interdisciplinary, deconstructive and archaeological approach that expands the discussion on the above thematics, while incorporating other areas of study: music technology; anthropology; philosophy; gender studies; cultural, performance and media studies; experimental, popular and contemporary music. 


It is within this backdrop, that we are inviting researchers to submit proposals that strongly engage with the ‘out of phase’ theme -- a need to incorporate views that are of out-of-sync or in opposite polarity regarding a possible familiarity in contemporary sonic theory and practice.
