Boston University announces the launch of the Boston University Messiaen
Project (BUMP), a three year, cross-disciplinary event dedicated to
scholarly discussion and performance of Messiaen's music, and to related
cultural, historical and theological issues, in an effort to raise
awareness of this notable figure. Using the resources of Boston
University, cooperation from organizations in the City of Boston and
advances in technology, it aims to provide a variety of musical and
scholarly offerings that will be of interest to a wide range of
audiences.

The Project begins with a conference in Boston on 21 & 22 September 2006
with distinguished speakers and performers including Peter Hill
(Sheffield University), Nigel Simeone (Sheffield University) and David
Kopp (Boston University). Details can be found at:

http://oliviermessiaen.net/news/conferences/bump.html

The background to the project and one of its most important components
is a web site dedicated to Messiaen:

www.oliviermessiaen.net

This site will provide a comprehensive resource and database for
Messiaen scholars and performers. Backed by a distinguished group of
editors and advisors, this site will also be an online journal. A formal
call for papers will be issued shortly.

Contributions to BUMP or to the web site should be e-mailed to the
project coordinator, Dr. Andrew Shenton: bumped em bu.edu
