International Webinair Philosophy and musicology of Audiotactility
Organized by: Laurent Cugny (Sorbonne Université, France),
Maria Beatriz Cyrino Moreira (Universidade Federal da Integração
Latino-Americana - UNILA, Brasil), Lisa Giombini (Università Roma Tre,
Italy).

Audiotactility, a notion introduced by the Italian musicologist Vincenzo
Caporaletti, refers to a particular type of music “formativity” that uses
auditory and bodily mediation to replace the visual representation provided
by the score in written music. Audiotactile music differs from oral music
in that it incorporates phonographic recording as a means to fix the sound
and rhythmic indications required by performers and as a support of the
work. Beyond specific differences, Jazz, rock, pop, blues, Brazilian
popular music, rap, etc., can be designated as ‘audiotactile music’ insofar
as they are based on this kind of formativity. However, as a concept,
audiotactility also proves to be relevant to other types of music such as
scored, oral, or improvised music. Audiotactility raises as many questions
for philosophy as for musicology.
This webinar aims to become a platform for discussion between practitioners
of the two disciplines from different countries and academic environments.
The webinar is held on Zoom every other Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm (CEST)
starting February 8, 2022.

While French is the preferred language, other languages are also welcomed
including English, Italian, and Portuguese. Each session will feature two
presentations, one by a doctoral or postdoctoral fellow and one by a senior
researcher, followed by a general discussion. Other formats are also
possible, such as e.g., the round table.
