*Montreal International Musical Competition - Piano*

*Descrição* 	

 From May 19 to 29, 2008, piano will be the focus of the Montreal 
International Musical Competition (MIMC). Presented in partnership with 
Jeunesses Musicales of Canada, this high-calibre competition is open to 
The young pianists from around the world who intend to pursue a 
professional career.

MIMC is composed of three disciplines: voice, violin, and piano. The 
2008 edition will be followed in 2009 with an edition devoted to voice, 
and in 2010 with a violin edition. Competition officials, however, do 
reserve the right to modify the order or choice of the disciplines in 
future editions.

The Competition consists of four rounds: preliminary,quarter final, 
semi-final, and final.Candidates must perform a different selection of 
works in each round.However, in either the quarter final, semi-final,or 
final rounds, candidates may repeat a work already performed as part of 
the programme in the preliminary round.

*Data Limite* 	

Deadline is January 11, 2008.

*Elegibilidade* 	

The 2008 Piano Edition of the Competition is open to pianists who intend 
to pursue a professional career. It is open to men and women of all 
nationalities who are 30 years old or less on January 1st, 2008.

*Valor Financiado* 	

The Competition awards three prizes(in Canadian dollars). Engagements 
may also be offered to the winners or finalists:
1^st Prize: CDN$30,000
2^nd Prize: CDN$15,000
3^rd Prize: CDN$7,500

Over the course of the Competition period, candidates will be offered 
free accommodation (including breakfast) with volunteer host families in 
the Montreal area.

The MIMC will assume travel costs for candidates selected for the 
quarter final round, in accordance with conditions determined by the MIMC.

*Requisitos* 	

Candidates must agree to be free of all other professional activities 
during the entire duration of the Competition, from May 19 to 29 
inclusively. In addition, all candidates must be present for the 
announcement of the semi-finalists; all semi-finalists must be present 
for the announcement of the finalists; all finalists must be present for 
the announcement of the winners; and all winners must be present at the 
gala concert for the award ceremony.

*Critérios de Seleção* 	

_Preliminary round_: three selection committees, appointed by 
Competition officials, will choose the quarter-finalists after 
conducting a blind audition and reviewing the applications of the sound 
recordings submitted by the candidates.

_Quarter final round_ and _Semi-final round_: In these two rounds 
candidates will perform a recital of no more than 45 minutes, open to 
the general public. An international jury, appointed by Competition 
officials, will listen to them and choose who is going to be invited for 
the next round.

_Final round_ In this round, the candidates will be accompanied by the 
Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal in a concert open to the 
general public.

All pieces executed by the candidates must be choosen from the lists

published on the Call. Following the final round, the president of the 
jury will announce the winners of the Montreal International Musical 
Competition.

*Forma de Solicitação* 	

Candidates must register online 
<https://secure.concoursmontreal.ca/piano08/en/> and then submit the 
following documents:

1. Two letters of reference in English or in French
2. One photocopy of your passport
3. Two different black & white photographs (approximately 15 cm X 20 cm) 
for use in the official programme a biography (between 250 and 300 
words) in French or in English ;
4. Recording of the proposed programme for the preliminary round (on CD, 
preferably, or on Mini-Disc; cassettes will not be accepted)
5. The entry fee in the amount of CDN$100 (or the equivalent in American 
funds).
