Caros colegas,

Recebi de nossa colega Suzel Reily, que trabalha na Queen's University em
Belfast, a notícia de que a Sotheby's vai leiloar no início de dezembro
manuscritos originais de Tom Jobim, incluindo o arranjo orquestral de Chega
de Saudade para o disco "Canção do amor demais" (descrição detalhada em
anexo). No ano em que a Bossa-Nova comemora 50 anos, acho que estes
manuscritos podem ser considerados parte do nosso patrimônio cultural. Será
que alguém conhece algum filantropo ou instituição cultural brasileiros
dispostos a tentar arrematar este lote? Se a idéia for estapafúrdia, espero
que pelo menos vocês gostem de ver, no texto abaixo, o nome de Tom Jobim em
meio aos de Mozart, Mendelssohn e Schumann.

I take pleasure in sending you the proofs for Sotheby's forthcoming sale of
Music, which will be held in London on Wednesday 3 December, starting at
10.30am.  There are 140 lots. Highlights include newly-discovered complete
autograph manuscripts of works by Chopin (the Tarantella), Bruckner and
Kodaly, other autograph manuscripts by Gluck, Schubert, Hugo Wolf, Hindemith
and Tom Jobim, letters by Mozart, Mendelssohn and Schumann, autograph
correction leaves by Schoenberg, an important collection of conducting
scores and working manuscripts by Vaughan Williams, scores signed by Debussy
and Wagner, and first editions by Mozart and Beethoven.

Please find attached the file containing the text of the sale without
illustrations. These are proof descriptions: many have already been revised
since this file was produced and all are subject to alteration, including in
some cases the estimates.

These lots will be sold according to Sotheby's normal conditions of
business, as published in our catalogues, in particular the "Guide for
Prospective Buyers".  This will be found printed in the catalogue for this
sale, which will be available from around 5 November.

There will be viewing for this sale here at New Bond St in London, from
Friday 28 November 2008, until Tuesday 2 December at 9am - 4:30pm, and also
on Sunday 30 November, from 12 until 4pm.  These times are subject to
revision.  We encourage prospective bidders to inspect lots (or have them
inspected on their behalf) to ensure that they accord with their particular
requirements.
