With the electronic journal Act – Zeitschrift für Musik & Performance the
Research Institute for Music Theater Studies in Thurnau (Forschungsinstitut
für
Musiktheater in Thurnau, fimt) has initiated an international and
interdisciplinary publication that offers a platform for articles, reviews,
and
columns at the intersection of the disciplines of musicology, theater
studies,
dance studies, and media studies. Act places particular emphasis on
methodological diversity and the promotion of young scholars.

CfA – In the Opera House: On Performance of Power

Opera and its development are inextricably linked to the possibility of
political action and therefore are part of power discourse. While the
cognitive
interest of opera research is often limited to the representative function
of
performance – therefore, the symbolization of power relationships – in this
issue the close interrelationship between society and opera will be
considered:
the opera genre and space as a place of causation, facilitation, and
consolidation of power. Those moments in the process of production,
performance,
and reception should be used to address the theme, in which diverse power
relationships are performed on the operatic stage or in its immediate
environment.

We warmly welcome all authors who are interested in the issue to send their
articles for consideration. Editorially-supported languages are German,
English,
French, and Italian.

The contributions should not exceed 45,000 characters in length (including
spaces). The deadline for articles is 15 July 2013. Please send in
submissions
