*Descrição*

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship Programme <https://www.gatescambridge.org/>
was established in October 2000 by a donation of US$210m from the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge. Scholarships are
awarded to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a
full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of
Cambridge. The aim of the Gates Cambridge programme is to build a global
network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others.

Candidates can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship if they are applying
to pursue one of the following full-time residential courses of study at
the University of Cambridge:

   1. PhD (three year research-only degree);
   2. MSc or MLitt (two year research-only degree);
   3. One year postgraduate course (e.g. MPhil, LLM, MASt, Diploma, MBA
   etc.).

*Elegibilidade*

Gates Cambridge considers applications from citizens from outside the
United Kingdom who wish to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree at the
University of Cambridge.
*Benefícios*

A Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers the full cost of studying at
Cambridge. It also provides additional, discretionary funding.

*Core components*:

   1. The University Composition Fee at the appropriate rate;
   2. A maintenance allowance for a single student (£14,600.00 for twelve
   months at the 2016-17 rate; pro rata for courses shorter than twelve
   months);
   3. One economy single airfare at both the beginning and end of the
   course;
   4. Inbound visa costs & associated NHS surcharge costs.

*Discretionary components*:

The Trust also considers applications for several types of additional
funding on a discretionary basis:

   1. Academic development funding (from £500.00 to £1,500.00, dependent on
   the length of your course, to attend conferences and courses);
   2. Family allowance (up to £10,120.00 for a first child and up to
   £4,320.00 for a second child. No funding is provided for a partner);
   3. Fieldwork - candidates may apply to keep up to your normal
   maintenance allowance while on fieldwork as part of the PhD;
   4. Hardship funding for unforeseen difficulties;
   5. Maternity/Paternity funding;
   6. Some fourth year funding for PhD Scholars may be provided.

*Forma de Solicitação*

Candidates apply for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship at the same time as
they apply for a degree course, a College place, and any other funding
opportunities through the University of Cambridge Graduate Applicant Portal
<http://www.graduate.study.cam.ac.uk/how-do-i-apply>. Applicants will need
to supply various supporting documents (e.g. transcripts and academic
references), including a personal reference for your application to Gates
Cambridge.
