Companheiros de estrada

A maior usina musical de sua época. Assim costumou-se definir os cursos
realizados em Darmstatd, cidade alemã que nos anos 50 e 60 reuniu a nata da
vanguarda européia. Não por acaso muitos dos grandes nomes da composição do
período passaram por lá, ou, de longe, absorveram suas influências. Neste
rico universo, destacam-se os nomes de Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez,
Luciano Berio e György Ligeti, compositores presentes no programa de hoje.
Cada obra selecionada é bastante característica de seu autor.

Com Zyclus, Stockhausen nos apresentou sua primeira partitura gráfica, que
um crítico comparou a um desenho de Paul Klee - e, nela, estão as bases da
revolução que o compositor empreendeu na música de percussão. A busca por
novas sonoridades está no centro do trabalho de Berio e é particularmente
visível na série de Sequenzas, escritas ao longo de toda a sua vida.

Dérive 1, de 1984, mostra Boulez explorando idéias harmônicas e texturas,
enquanto a Sonata para violoncelo é o exemplo de um Ligeti capaz de aliar
inovações de escrita a uma rara riqueza expressiva e de temperamentos. O
importante, no entanto, é perceber como essas obras dialogam entre si,
oferecendo um painel rico do que foi um momento fundamental na história
recente da composição.

Adélia Issa interpreta Pierrot Lunaire no espetáculo Luar Trovado

Dias 9 e 10 de junho, a soprano Adélia Issa interpreta Pierrot Lunaire de
Arnold Schoenberg, no espetáculo Luar Trovado, com direção musical de Lívio
Tragtenberg e direção cênica de Gerald Thomas, no SESC Pinheiros. Além de
Pierrot Lunaire, serão apresentadas composições de Lívio Tragtenberg, com
participação de Elke Maravilha, Lucila Tragtenberg, Deise Tigrona, Arnaldo
Moura e os atores Fabiana Gugli, Pancho Cappeletti, Anna Américo e Narciso
Tosti. Com a Orquestra de Câmara Theatro São Pedro de Porto Alegre e
regência de Antônio Carlos Borges Cunha.

Pierrot Lunaire (Pierrô Lunar, opus 21) foi composta em 1912 e é uma das
obras inaugurais da música moderna, talvez a manifestação máxima do
expressionismo. Discreto em sua configuração instrumental camerística, é um
melodrama construído a partir de vinte e um poemas do belga Albert Giraud,
divididos em três partes. Albert Giraud foi um poeta simbolista com temática
fantástica. A tradução alemã é de Otto Hartleben. A versão que será
apresentada traz a recriação do texto em português feita por Augusto de
Campos. O texto é repleto de imagens, algumas noturnas, outras delirantes ou
opressivas, mas todas com grande poder evocativo.

Arnold Schoenberg nasceu em Viena, em 13 de setembro de 1874. Morreu em Los
Angeles, em 13 de julho de 1951. Iniciou sua carreira em 1882, ao violino
como autodidata. Em 1894, passou a ter aulas de composição com Alexander von
Zemlinsky, aluno do Conservatório de Viena. Foi Zemlinsky o responsável pela
sua formação teórico-musical e pelos ensinamentos dos princípios gerais de
composição, tornando-se uma referência importante na carreira musical de
Schöenberg,, que adquiriu pleno domínio da linguagem harmônica tonal de fins
do século XIX e início do século XX. Como professor da Academia Prussiana de
Artes, foi mestre de Berg, Werbern e Wellez. Em 1933, expulso de Berlim
pelos nazistas, emigrou para os Estados Unidos, passando a lecionar na
Universidade da Califórnia. Schöenberg faleceu em 1951.

Adélia Issa é uma das mais importantes cantoras líricas brasileiras e é uma
grande intérprete de obras do século XX. A soprano freqüentou a Manhattan
School of Music, em Nova York, e fez um curso de aperfeiçoamento com Nico
Castel, na Metropolitan Opera. Em música de câmara, trabalhou sob a
orientação do renomado pianista Dalton Baldwin.

Tem se apresentado por todo o Brasil, Estados Unidos e Europa, em recitais,
concertos sinfônicos e em óperas, sob a regência de Eleazar de Carvalho,
Isaac Karabtchevsky, Eugene Kohn, John Neschling, Aylton Escobar, Osvaldo
Colarusso, e vários outros maestros de igual renome. Dentre suas atuações
mais importantes em ópera destacam-se Un Ballo in Maschera de Verdi, ao lado
do tenor Carlo Bergonzi, e Carmen de Bizet, com Plácido Domingo. Foi solista
em primeiras audições mundiais de obras de vários compositores brasileiros,
entre eles Camargo Guarnieri, Francisco Mignone, Jocy de Oliveira, e no
Réquiem de Cláudio Santoro, com regência do compositor. A soprano é
conhecida internacionalmente por suas interpretações de obras de Villa-Lobos
(Bachianas Brasileiras nº. 5) e Mozart, como a personagem Donna Anna, da
ópera Don Giovanni.

Adélia Issa gravou em LP as Modinhas Imperiais (recolhidas por Mário de
Andrade) para o selo Eldorado, e participou da gravação dos CDs Remeiros do
São Francisco, com obras de Ernst Widmer, e Missa, interpretando obras do
barroco mineiro (projeto Acervo da Música Brasileira - Petrobras). Tem
participado da gravação de inúmeras trilhas sonoras para filmes como
Memórias Póstumas de André Klotzel, exibido no Festival de Berlim de 2001, e
peças de teatro compostas por Arrigo Barnabé. Dentre suas inúmeras
premiações, destaca-se o Prêmio Carlos Gomes em 1999, como Destaque Vocal
Feminino.

Adélia Issa é uma artista eclética que transita por todos os gêneros. Além
de óperas e concertos, participou de espetáculos com Tetê Espíndola, Marília
Pêra, Ná Ozzetti, Marcos Frota, entre outros.

Syracuse University

Syracuse University is pleased to announce Music, Justice, and Gender, a
symposium to be held September 14-16, 2007. This event, generously supported
by a grant from the Mellon Foundation, will bring together scholars,
performers, and activists from the worlds of performance, composition,
historical musicology, ethnomusicology, and women's studies to join the
faculty and students from the universities involved in the newly instituted
Upstate New York Humanities Corridor-the Eastman School of Music (University
of Rochester), Syracuse University, and Cornell University. The symposium
will feature a newly commissioned work by Judith Lang Zaimont, a keynote
address by Suzanne Cusick, and performances by the Harlem String Quartet.

We invite scholars interested in issues related to music, justice, and
gender to submit bstracts. Possible topics might include, but are not
limited to:

* Music, gender, and censorship
* The role of women/LGBT composers and scholars in the academy
* Gender, justice, and musical nationalism
* Music, gender, and violence
* Music, gender, and AIDS/HIV
* Music, gender, and the negotiation of power
* Music, gender, and race

Abstracts (250 words) should outline the proposed paper as fully as possible
and should include requests for any needed audiovisual equipment. Papers
will be limited to 20 minutes.

Announcement of competition 2007
Compositions for guitar, duo, trio or ensemble with the guitar

The competition will take place according to the following rules

Art. 1

The competition is advertised by the IGS Association and it is called "IGS
guitar symposium Prize". It's open to composers from every country and of
every age.

Art. 2

The compositions admitted are those for guitar, duo, trio or ensemble whit
the guitar.

Art. 3

Only unpublished works which have never been represented and have no
editorial bonds will be admitted.

Art. 4

The competitors who wins, will accept the standard rules of the contracts
given by the Publishing Houses: Bèrben. This contract or more information  can
be demanded by e-mail at info em italiaguitarsociety.com

Art. 5

The competition provides 1 (one) prize:

1st prize

A publishing contract with the house Bèrben (www.berben.it)  which consists
of production and distribution of the winner composition, a Merit
Certificate signed up by the Board of Examiners.

Art. 6

The applications for participation will have to comply with the following
procedure:

* In a first closed envelop, will have to contain the original score in 2
(two) copies of it and:

1. Name, surname, address, telephone number, e-mail, place and date of birth
and nationality of competitor;

2. 3 pictures of the competitor (a passport photo for the set of forms and
two artistic ones for the press);

3. A declaration where the author attests that the composition presented is
an unpublished one;

4. A declaration where the author attests on his/her own responsibility to
be in order with the rules a

5. A curriculum vitae;

6. The copy of the receipt for the payment of 50,00  -fifty/00- Euros (as
application fee not refundable) through a bank transfer (ask to IGS the Bank
count before the payment) in favour of: IGS ITALIA GUITAR SOCIETY via IV
Novembre, 32  - 03023 CECCANO (FR) Italy- where the reason for payment,
which is "IGS Competition 2007", will have to be specified.

The  envelop will have to be sent to: IGS ITALIA GUITAR SOCIETY via IV
Novembre, 32  - 03023 CECCANO (FR) Italy- Incomplete applications and those
not in compliance with the indications listed in the announcement, will be
excluded from the competition as the Board of Examiners will unappellably
judge.

Art. 7

The applications for participation as described in the art. 6, will have to
arrive at the above mentioned address within September 20, 2007. The
postmarks put on the envelop at its departure, will bear witness to this
date. The IGS Society and the organization's partners is not responsible for
the applications not arrived or arrived later than the expiry date.

Art. 8

The results of the competition will be made known to winners through
registered letter or e.mail.

Art. 9

Prize givings will be public with the press at the City of Ceccano. The
Organization will reserve the possibility to film or record with any
technical means available in order to possibly use the recordings in a
programme or for any other suitable uses, without owing anything to the
authors except the copyright directly paid by the Siae or by any of its
agencies on the territory. At the end of the competition, the Publishing
House BERBEN, will start the production and printing works as described in
the article 5.

Art. 10

Competitors mustn't use their works until the end of the competition,
otherwise they are subject to exclusion from the competition.

Art. 11

If for any reasons the competition or part of it can't develop in due course
or in the proper way as established by the rules, the Organization will
reserve to take due measures and it will make this known to the competitors
through traditional and electronical means.

Art. 12

For any disputes, the Court of Frosinone is competent; the Italian version
will bear witness for all that concerns the interpretation and application
of the present announcement and the Italian law will be applied.

Rules:

1. Compositions are to be played from original scores only.

2. Younger participants can play in higher categories, vice versa is not
possible.

3. The 1st prize winner of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd International "Alps-Adria-
Danube" Competition (Krsko 2001, Nova Gorica 2003 and 2005) can only compete
in a higher category.

4. Each competitor has the official accompanist (Zoltan Peter) at his/ her
disposal.

5. Before the competition, competitors are obliged to prove their identity
by means of an identity document.

6. Each competitor has to prepare 5 (five) copies of the piano part of the
chosen composition.

7. The competitors will be listed in the order fixed publicly by lot.

8. The decision of the jury is final; discussion with its members is
possible after the competition has finished.

9. The organizers reserve all rights concerning public recording and
presentation.

The 'City of Nova Gorica', a bronze sculpture by the Slovenian artist Zmago
Posega, is presented for the best performance in the 2nd category for the
composition chosen from the list.

The Society of Slovene Composers will present winners in each category with
practical prizes: three editions from Society of Slovene Composers, CD from
the 'Ars SlovenicA' chosen by the winners, and the publication 'Composers
traces after 1900' written by Crt Sojar Voglar.

SLOWAY Music Editions will award the best performance of Slovenian
composition in each category with a collection of new Slovenian saxophone
music chosen by the winners in the amount of value of 125 E.

All candidates will receive a certificate of attendance.

3ER FESTIVAL DE MÚSICA CONTEMPORÁNEA EN MICHOACÁN

Con el fin de propiciar un espacio del más alto nivel académico y fomentar
la creación musical en el ámbito estatal y nacional, el Gobierno del Estado
de Michoacán, a través de la Secretaría de Cultura, realizará el III
Festival Internacional de Música Contemporánea de Michoacán, En esta tercera
edición, el Festival contará con la presencia de compositores e intérpretes
de reconocido prestigio internacional, entre los que se encuentran: Carlos
Sánchez-Gutiérrez, Alejandro Viñao, Takayuki Rai, Shu Matsuda, Norio
Nakagawa, Internacional Contemporary Ensemble, Ensamble Nomad, Ensamble 3,
