The Lyrica Society for Word-Music Relations is pleased to announce its
affiliation with the National Opera Association (www.noa.org). The NOA
publishes _The Opera Journal_ quarterly. Coinciding with the
anniversary of the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the NOA holds
its annual, National Convention early each January.
The next NOA Convention will be held at the University of Michigan, Ann
Arbor, January 5-8, 2006. Contributing to the NOA's African-American
Legacy Program, and to mark its inaugural collaboration with the NOA,
Lyrica will hold two scholarly papers sessions during the next NOA
Convention. The first session will be devoted to the ethnological roots
of African-American music; the second will be devoted to the works of
African-American composers and/or
African-American-inspired compositions. Papers presented will be
considered and queued for publication in _Ars Lyrica_ and will also be
referred to the Editorial Board of _The Opera Journal_. Three papers
per session will be accepted for presentation. Including time for
performance demonstration and discussion, papers should each last no
longer than 30 minutes.
The deadline for submission of abstracts (maximum 500 words)is December
1, 2005. They should be sent by e-mail to lyricasociety em aol.com with
LYRICA/NOA in the subject line. Candidates whose papers will be
selected should be or should become members of the Lyrica Society for
Word-Music Relations.
