After three successful SysMus conferences in Graz, Austria (2008), Ghent,
Belgium (2009) and Cambridge, UK (2010), the fourth international conference
of students of systematic musicology (SysMus11) will take place in Cologne,
Germany, in October 2011.

We invite PhD and advanced Master students from systematic musicology
and students coming from other related disciplines to present their ongoing
research in a friendly environment.

Systematic musicologists study the phenomenon of music in its general rather
than specific manifestations. Systematic musicology connects diverse
epistemologies and methodologies from the sciences and the humanities to
create a fundamental and transdisciplinary research field. It involves
different paradigms and methods from empirical psychology and sociology,
acoustics, physiology, neurosciences, cognitive sciences, computing and
technology as well as philosophical aesthetics, theoretical
sociology, semiotics, hermeneutics, music criticism, cultural and gender
studies and other disciplines.

The conference intends to bring together international students with top
researchers in the field to create a wide research network. It aims to
promote the interdisciplinary character of systematic musicology in the long
term by training the next generation of academics. SysMus11 offers the
publication and presentation of peer-reviewed papers and posters, keynote
speeches from internationally renowned music researchers, workshops and
social activities.

website.

We would like to welcome you in Cologne!
