* *

*Miroslav Spasov (*1964*)* is a Canadian/Macedonian composer who writes
instrumental and interactive electroacoustic music. He graduated
composition and conducting from the University of St. Cyril and Methodius
(Skopje, R of Macedonia), continued his studies at the Hoschschule fur
Musik in Vienna and earned his PhD in Music Composition form the University
of Calgary in Canada. He is a Senior Lecturer in Composition,
Electroacoustic Composition and Computer Music Techniques in the
Music/Music Technology Programmes at Keele University, UK.



His works have been performed in festivals and solo concerts both in Europe
and North America. These include the International Festival Ostrava New
Music Days, Czech Republic, the Bartok Seminar and Festival in Szombathely,
Hungary, Ammermen Centre for Arts and Technology (USA), and others.



He has received two grants for creative work from The Canada Council for
The Arts (2004 and 2007-2008) and one from Alberta Arts Council (2003).
Among other awards, his composition Metaanthropos/Evolutio I for flute and
electronics, won the first prize in the Second International Computer Music
Competition Pierre Schaeffer, 1999, and was subsequently performed in
Italy, France, and Netherlands. His orchestra piece à gauche, à droite, en
haut was awarded an honorable mention in the 10e Concours International de
Composition Musicale de Besancon (2000), France.



Recently his research focused on the development of software for
interactive realtime performance – *ENACTIV*, Interactive Multimodal
Composing System and *Attractors Library* a collection of MAX/MSP/Jitter
modules.



Research Interests include: Electroacoustic Composition, in particular the
interaction between acoustic instruments and computer
platforms; Composition; Semiotics and Cognition applied to audiovisual
creative processes.
