The Boston University Graduate Music Society, a student organization for

Theory, invites abstract submissions for our sixth annual graduate student
conference. The theme for this year's conference is “Music in and of
America.”
We welcome papers on topics related to any of the diverse strands of the
musical
heritage of the United States, ranging from popular musics, blues, jazz,
hip-hop, classical traditions, and native traditions, as well as America's
musical influence worldwide. Papers may take a variety of approaches,
including,
but not limited to, socio-cultural, analytical, historical, and
interdisciplinary perspectives. Proposals for a lecture-recital format are
welcome as well. Each presentation should be twenty minutes in length, to be
followed by a ten-minute Q&A session.

The conference will feature a keynote speaker, to be announced.

Please send an abstract of no more than 250 words, along with a brief cover
letter that includes your name, telephone number, university affiliation,
and
student status to Jeannette Jones, jonesj at bu.edu.

Deadline for abstracts is December 5th, 2012. Notification of acceptance
will
occur by December 15th.

Any questions should be directed to: musicsoc at bu.edu.
