This article raises a number of questions and it's difficult to approach it
objectively without knowing the answers.

Does the university in question pride itself on having a prestigious music
department and music library? The more prestigious, the more the writer
might be frustrated that its claim to excellence was being compromised by
his experience.

Is this a university which once had specialist music library staff but
which has had to cut specialist posts through lack of funding? If so, then
the writer might have been expecting a former level of expertise which was
no longer forthcoming.

Do our IAML colleagues in Australia have in place any training programmes
which could address this problem, along the lines of the UK & Ireland
branch's "Music for the Terrified" course? If so, is this particular
university aware of them?
